Read the interview of James Roberts and Nick Roche in regards to The Last Stand of the Wreckers and already this picture is making me very sad

Twin Twist on one end, Topspin on the other and the interview states there's a high body count and from what I've seen in All Hail Megatron (the first, like, five issues) they don't show up. Two guesses as to who's included in this body count...

Also, they said there's a total of 10 Wreckers and we see five here. The interview also states that they're bringing in new characters and switching out- as implicitly stated -Roadbuster, Whirl, Sandstorm and Broadside. Also implicitly stated that they're not exactly dead or written out and since I know RB at least shows up in AHM, I'm going to think the four of them had to split off for a separate mission until it's stated elsewhere (the fact that ONLY rb showed up in ahm makes me think that other mission didn't exactly end well...)

My illustration homework was coming along well. It wasn't the greatest thing I've done this semester, but it wasn't so bad.

Observe the use of past tense, there.

It WAS fine. Until I took the masking fluid off and wondered why the fuck I thought it was a good idea to put that stuff on in the first place. Oh yeah- because my teacher told me to! And, with her being the teacher and having more watercolor experience than me, I thought taking her advice would be a good idea!

Except it's a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE FRUSTRATING BEYOND BELIEF NOT!

Goddammit, now I'm going to have to remix ALL my colors in order to get these bright white patches to BLEND properly and redo all the layers that got cleaned off after trying to blend what I COULD and now, instead of a passably okay ferret, it looks like a ferret with mange.

Fuck me, it's a good thing I don't have class tomorrow and I can work on fixing this. I'm never taking advice again if part of my brain says 'yeah, that doesn't sound smart'.

Because this just came at me and won't let me properly focus on my homework until I get it done. One random fact for every major and important secondary character in Skip Tracers.

Tio: is very gestural when talking. Even when he's thinking, instead of muttering out loud, he'll gesticulate silently to himself.

Kai: will fall asleep within twenty minutes of being in a theater or watching tv, no matter how loud it is. The only exception to this are movie nights with friends that end up more talking than watching anything or playing video games because at least it's interactive.

Third: is extremely artistic, even if he doesn't think so. He can draw, paint, design, sculpt and carve though he's never had any formal training. He doesn't even consider the things he does as art, merely as something to do to keep from being bored.

Kylan: can't watch horror/thriller movies. Not because she finds them particularly frightening, but because she can't wait through heavy tension without doing something to deal with the problem.

Balt: has to be careful about what he eats as it is very easy for him to gain weight and was, in fact, overweight as a child. His brothers teases him about it still, saying all the calories goes to Balt's cheeks first before anywhere else.

Cowlan: has a garden that he and his sons grow spices, herbs and vegetables from that they also preserve. During the spring, his family will go out to local farms and orchards to buy fruit that he also preserves as jams, jellies, candied, etc.

Hunter: is OCD with cleaning. Asides from being known to spending hours cleaning a room everyone else would have considered clean, she'll force people to clean up after themselves to her preference before she'll bow under the need for things to be spotless herself.

Bowen: not only has a massive sweet tooth but is also a connoisseur of baked goods. He always tries a new sweet pastry to every place he ever goes and has a list of the best bakeries in any given place he's spent any substantial amount of time at.

Chia: has a passion for cheesy, campy b-movies, especially martial-arts/action or sci-fi/monster movies. She genuinely enjoys them and thinks they're hilarious enough without needing to quip about them. As a result, however, she tends to laugh at inappropriate places in more serious movies.

Rin: gets teary-eyed easily, much to his supreme annoyance. He doesn't get weepy, but under bouts of extreme emotion, his eyes start pricking which gets him frustrated, which puts more emotional stress on him and thus more prone to tears.

Duragon: has a soft spot for mythologies, fairytales and general supernatural stories. He's embarrassed to admit it, but stories of larger-than-life heroes, fantastic creatures and terrifying monsters entrances him like a little kid.

Q: is capable of making verbal sounds, but chooses not to for whatever reason. If Q is capable of speech, however, is unknown.

Solo: has a twin sister he keeps meaning to get back in touch with. They're not estrange, but both tend to forget about keeping in contact and so only talk to each other once every few months.

Hanae: has hyperglycemia and is a Type II diabetic, which upsets her greatly. In her village she never had any health problems; it wasn't until she started eating the 'disgustingly unhealthy' (as she calls it) foods 'modern society' serves did her naturally high blood sugar become problematic.

Sen: cannot stay still for any length of time unless absolutely necessary. If nothing's being done, Sen will start stretching, balancing on something, practicing footwork, etc.

Lars: collects things. Mainly figures, statuettes, toy models and will get obsessive about anything with a limited run. He's a completionist on top of that, and has shelves upon shelves of full collections methodically displayed in his home.

Damn you, TVTropes! Damn you to hell!

Asides from you amusing and link-webbing goodness wasting away all hours of the day, you single-handedly managed to get me shipping Boostle! Boostle!

I've never read their comics! Hell- I haven't even picked up any DC comics since before I joined the Corps and here I am, squeeing over the adorkability of Blue Beetle- who I only saw in the Last Laugh tie-ins and was amused by -and Booster Gold- who I only knew as kind of an ass from one of the Justice League cartoons.

And now? I STILL haven't seen their comics, but I've seen some of their hijinks, waded into their fandom and I'm stuck at working thinking about how much I just want to go home and read about their silly, woobie bromance!

Curse you and me and their too-addictive fandom! (i swear to god, if boostle gets me back into comic slashing again, i think i may cry)

Meme that I ganked from some random journals I was trolling after a mix of boredom, insomnia and waiting for something to update.

You’ve somehow acquired a magical dimension-splicing conversion van and are planning an epic cross-country road trip with your friends and fandom. First, pick ten travel buddies from anywhere -- real life, fiction, OCs, celebrities, whatever. Then answer these questions to see how cracktastic your adventure turns out to be.

Transformers
1. Springer
2. Roadbuster
3. Whirl
4. Sandstorm
5. Broadside
6. Scoop
7. Twin Twist
8. Topspin
9. Prowl
10. Wheeljack

1. The GPS has an obnoxious voice. What does 9 (Prowl) name it, and is 7 (Twin Twist) bothered by it?

Prowl definitely wouldn't name the GPS. In fact, the most childish in this regard he'd be is if everyone else called it by a nickname- even a shortened version of its model -he'd make a point to call it by its full manufactured name. Including serial number if it had it. And yes. Twin Twist would be bothered with it rather quickly.

2. 1, 4, 6 and 8 (Springer, Sandstorm, Scoop, Topspin) are all forced to share the cramped back row of seats. How do they arrange themselves?

If Topspin had his way, he'd be sprawled across all three of their laps. In response, if the other three had their way, Topspin would be on the floor as their foot rest.

3. 5 and 10 (Broadside, Wheeljack) are sitting next to each other. Who gets the window seat?

Wheeljack could sit wherever he wanted and Side would be more than happy to accommodate because that's the kind of mech he is. Then again, considering the size the vehicle would have to be to hold a guy Broadside's size, Wheeljack could probably get TWO PLUS window seats...

4. 3 and 4 (Whirl, Sandstorm) are invading one another’s personal space. Who gets annoyed first, and how do they deal with it?

Oh god, that would ultimately depend on their individual state of minds when it starts. If Whirl is feeling particularly cramped, he'd blame Sandstorm for deliberately encroaching on his territory which would get Sandy all indignant. On the other hand, if Sandstorm were being prickly that day, he'd accuse Whirl of purposefully trying to annoy him. In short, the trip would be stopped in pretty short order so seats could be switched^^;;

5. What habit does 8 (Topspin) have that might get on 2’s (Roadbuster) nerves?

Considering they live and work generally in tight quarters together- and the seemingly endless amount of patience RB has for, well, EVERYTHING -there's really nothing Spin could do that RB isn't already acclimated to. Unless Topspin excessively flirted (badly) for an extended period of time. RB would probably snap eventually.

6. Who’s more likely to start up a round of "99 Bottles," 1 or 7 (Springer, Twin Twist)?

....terribly enough, either of them would be. Hell, they'd probably start it up TOGETHER. (springer leads by example, i guess?)

7. Where is number 7 (Twin Twist)?

Anywhere his drills aren't poking anyone else. Or any THING else. But he'd probably be in the seat that no one else would want because they think it's too cramped. To him, it would be like home |D

8. You stop at a gas station and 5 and 3 (Broadside, Whirl) make a snack-and-supply run. What do they bring back?

Actually, sending Broadside is a very smart thing. Asides from having the capacity to carry a shit load of whatever, he'd be able to keep Whirl from getting weird things that happen to get his attention. PLUS he'd stay within budget. So anything they'd bring back, it would be what they were asked to get.

9. 6 and 8 (Scoop, Topspin) brought CDs. What’s on their playlist?

Pfffft, I never thought about the kind of music Wreckers would actually listen to. No clue.

10. Who’s the more notorious backseat driver, 2 or 10 (Roadbuster, Wheeljack)?

RB, hands down. He's not so much a 'backseat driver' as he is a very precise one. I mean- obviously they ALL are since they all turn into vehicles of some sort, but RB is meticulously detailed about navigating, situational awareness, etc. So, if he sees something he thinks the driver didn't notice and believes they should be aware of it, he'll point it out.

Keroro Gunsou
1. Keroro
2. Tamama
3. Giroro
4. Kululu
5. Dororo
6. Fuyuki
7. Natsumi
8. Koyuki
9. Aki
10. Paul

1. The GPS has an obnoxious voice. What does 9 (Aki) name it, and is 7 (Natsumi) bothered by it?

Aki absolutely would. And she'd probably gush over it. And, since I'm imagining this thing as the Keron!GLaDOS from Kero Zero, Natsumi would definitely be bothered by it and probably argue with it the entire time.

2. 1, 4, 6 and 8 (Keroro, Kululu, Fuyuki, Koyuki) are all forced to share the cramped back row of seats. How do they arrange themselves?

Likely? Keroro and Kululu would sit on Fuyuki and Koyuki's (respective) laps in order to save space. Or rather, Keroro would sit on Fuyuki's lap in the middle and Kululu be at the window seat, glued to his laptop.

3. 5 and 10 (Dororo, Paul) are sitting next to each other. Who gets the window seat?

Dororo would. Paul would be wondering (as would everyone else, really) why the hell he's on a roadtrip with these people instead of protecting Momoka...

4. 3 and 4 (Giroro, Kululu) are invading one another’s personal space. Who gets annoyed first, and how do they deal with it?

LOLFOREVER! Giroro would be freaking the fuck out and Kululu would be 'kukuku'ing the entire time and everyone one else will be wondering, not for the millionth time, if Kululu is actually hitting on Giroro or if he just enjoys being a creepy fuck.

5. What habit does 8 (Koyuki) have that might get on 2’s (Tamama) nerves?

None, I guess? Unless Koyuki being there kicked Momoka off the trip list, then EVERYTHING about Koyuki would piss Tamama off.

6. Who’s more likely to start up a round of "99 Bottles," 1 or 7 (Keroro, Natsumi)?

Keroro. Full stop.

7. Where is number 7 (Natsumi)?

Wherever she wants to be. Probably up front, trying to ignore the existance of the alien-frog-things she's forced into close proximity of.

8. You stop at a gas station and 5 and 3 (Dororo, Giroro) make a snack-and-supply run. What do they bring back?

Probably the most tasteless, bland and unappealing snacks at the store. But at least it would be healthy (Dororo) and body efficient (Giroro). Then Keroro and Tamama would yell at them for not getting sweets and PROPER snacks and Kululu would put curry over everything they got (thus making it unappealing to EVERYONE) and Natsumi would grouse and say she KNEW this was going to happen so you stupid frogs better be happy she made snacks to bring along on the trip...

9. 6 and 8 (Fuyuki, Koyuki) brought CDs. What’s on their playlist?

Since Koyuki's house doesn't have any kind of electricity I doubt she listens to music at ALL. Fuyuki listens to... I guess contemporary Japanese music? Though, for some reason, I picture him being behind the times so his taste in music actually runs about five years behind mainstream.

10. Who’s the more notorious backseat driver, 2 or 10 (Tamama, Paul)?

Tamama is all about fun. Paul would want Fuyuki and Tamama to be in one piece for Momoka's sake, so he'd be more apt to give 'advice' to the driver.

Republic Commando (don't judge me DX)
1. Boss
2. Sev
3. Scorch
4. Fixer
5. Niner
6. Darman
7. Atin
8. Fi
9. Corr
10. Mird (yes. the strill is going on a roadtrip.)

1. The GPS has an obnoxious voice. What does 9 (Corr) name it, and is 7 (Atin) bothered by it?

Corr probably would. And it probably wouldn't be a complimentary or even a repeatable-in-proper-company name. And if someone else didn't get annoyed by it first, Atin would probably take the thing apart. They're commandos. They don't need no stinking GPS to tell them where to go!

2. 1, 4, 6 and 8 (Boss, Fixer, Darman, Fi) are all forced to share the cramped back row of seats. How do they arrange themselves?

Fixer would get an end seat and would generally keep to himself (or his brothers) for the entire trip because he's insular like that. Boss would sit next to him and Darman and Fi would have no problems arranging themselves however they'd need to.

3. 5 and 10 (Niner, Mird) are sitting next to each other. Who gets the window seat?

MIRD. Hell, if anyone had their way, Mird would be OUTSIDE the window.

4. 3 and 4 (Scorch, Fixer) are invading one another’s personal space. Who gets annoyed first, and how do they deal with it?

Scorch would definitely be instigating it and Fixer would be making sharp comments at him until Boss decides to intervene to keep Fixer from snapping.

5. What habit does 8 (Fi) have that might get on 2’s (Sev) nerves?

Uh... EVERYTHING? Well, okay, Sev's loosened up around him, but he's still got the short-tempered psycho rep to keep up, so he'd be making sarcastic/biting comments about everything Fi did regardless.

6. Who’s more likely to start up a round of "99 Bottles," 1 or 7 (Boss, Atin)?

Neither. Asides from neither of them knowing the song (or an analogue) they'd both probably shoot themselves before reaching that level of boredom.

7. Where is number 7 (Atin)?

As far away from Mird (and probably Sev) as he could possibly get.

8. You stop at a gas station and 5 and 3 (Niner, Scorch) make a snack-and-supply run. What do they bring back?

Sweets. Lots and lots of sweets. But since it's also Niner, healthy, energizing and nutritious foods, as well.

9. 6 and 8 (Darman, Fi) brought CDs. What’s on their playlist?

All I know about their music tastes is Fi apparently likes glimmick music. I have no idea what the hell that is, but the name makes me think 80's hair metal...

10. Who’s the more notorious backseat driver, 2 or 10 (Sev, Mird)?

Uh, as Mird is a strill and therefore does not have any kind of vocal capabilities the commandos would be able to understand, Sev would be the backseat driver. Especially since he'd probably prefer to be the one driving.
Excuse the double-posting, but I feel the need to not so much rant as I will be telling you all a story.

This story is basically in response to a post about Halo: ODST's female failing. To be more specific, it's about this particular thread.

I was in the military. I was in the military after September 11, 2001. The Senior Drill Instructor of our sister platoon had told us that, during the previous Middle East engagement, she was a driver and she had to learn how to drive and balance a rifle on her arm in case whatever caravan she was part of was attacked. I learned, from practically the first moment of my military career, that given the circumstances we were in it was probable that, female or not, we could be sent overseas and we could be engaged in fighting whether our MOS sounded like support or not.

This is not a story about her. This story, instead, is about a good friend of mine: Annette. She was one of three Marines I looked up to most during my time in service, part because she's badass, part because she's female. I met her while I was in MOS school- she had moved from Army MP to Marine illustration and for a time I actually roomed with her. I was ecstatic to learn that I would eventually be stationed at the same base as her (i didn't want to go to that particular base to begin with, but at least i knew i had her and adam there).

Annette's a mother. She has two daughters that were, I believe, 9 and 7 or thereabouts when we were still in the same duty station. At one point, Annette was sent to Iraq for a six month tour. When she returned, she told me many stories about what she had gone through while there.

She told me about how she went out with regular patrol squads- all male, by the way -and helped cleared buildings. She told me about how an IED had torn through the Humvee she was riding in, but she survived because of the extra armor on her door. She told me about how she was once pinned inside a building by a sniper and while they were on the roof, one of the men in her squad was shot and killed next to her. She saw a head come up on the opposite roof. She fired. The head never came back. She told me about a time when an Army camp she was attached to came under some sort of mortar or artillery fire and how dust was kicked into the air and people couldn't see and that she ducked into a building for protection. She told me she heard someone outside in the dust, crying out. She went back out, found that person disoriented and floundering and brought him back to the building she was in. She said he had been hit by shrapnel that bounced off the ground and pierced right through the underside of his jaw. She told me how pissed off she was because she remembered seeing Army men in doorways, but she was the only one that went out. That man she found survived.

Annette went to Iraq as a photographer. She has photos of buildings she helped clear. She has a photo of a bloodstained staircase where they carried the body of a fallen comrade from the rooftop. She made paintings of what she's seen, of three Marines hugging each other while a casket draped in a flag was carried on the back of a plane. At least one of her paintings, last time I was there, is displayed in the Marine Corps Heritage Museum. 'Photographer' is not one of those jobs you think of when you think about people being in the front lines. But she was still there. And thousands of other women in various branches of the military have faced similar situations, even if their jobs are not traditional 'front line' fields.

Women have been fighting since human kind first began fighting. Some times just to protect their homes and families, sometimes disguising themselves as men to do so, sometimes because they get caught up in the action when they weren't supposed to and it happens. And maybe grunts don't want women in the front for whatever misogynistic or misplaced chivalric reasons they may be, but in the end do you really think most will give a shit about your gender the first time you prove you can do exactly what you're needed to do?

The first day of Rally Spain begins tomorrow, radio coverage starts about 2330, my time. It may only be the penultimate rally, but it's got to be the most important one of the season. I'm sure it will all come down to Rally Wales, but Spain is really going to be what sets that stage.

Hirvonen is currently (due to technicalities from the australia) five points ahead of five-time world champion Loeb. Spain is a full asphalt rally which not only is Loeb's best surface, but also his teammate Sordo's who came in second at last year's Rally Spain. But's it's not just Loeb and Sordo that Hirvonen has to watch out for. Ogier has also been very consistent and fast that past few rallies and- on top of that -Citreon has Petter Solberg driving for their Junior team. Solberg who has twice this year landed third place in a three+ year old Xsara- a car Citreon had stopped rallying with around 2005.

So a quick break down of points between the two leads:

Hirvonen - 78
Loeb - 73

Now, everyone knows Loeb's going to win Spain (he has for the last four years at least... unless something catastrophic happens- which, considering how the past five rallies went down, isn't impossible). So, most likely, Spain will end up in one of two ways:

Loeb - 10
Hirvonen - 8
Sordo - 6

or

Loeb - 10
Sordo - 8
Hirvonen - 6

and the outside chance of

Loeb - 10
Sordo - 8
P. Solberg - 6
Hirvonen - 5

First scenario would mean they'd be going into Wales with points breakdown of:

Hirvonen - 86
Loeb - 83

or

Hirvonen - 84
Loeb - 83

or, again, the outside chance of

Loeb - 83
Hirvonen - 83

In the first scenario, that would mean Hirvonen would have to get no less than second place in order to win his first championship, in the second and third, he would have to come in first. Or, to look at it another, no matter what place he comes in, he just has to make sure that Loeb comes in AFTER him.

There's absolutely a chance that Hirvonen could win Wales. Loeb won it last year, but that was because Hirvonen had an off on the first day. The year before that, however, Hirvonen had beaten both Loeb and Gronholm so the potential definitely is there.

I think that's why Spain is so important. Because we know that Wales is where it ends, but in Wales everyone knows that the fight will be between the two top drivers. But in Spain, it's more like an entire pack will be hounding Hirvonen the entire way. So we know it's going to be close, we just don't know how close...

PS: I need a better 'hoshit, lookit me dork out about shit no one else cares about!' icon...

Saw 9 the other day and finally got the time to do some sort of review.

It was... not exactly what I was hoping it would be, but it certainly wasn't bad. I may, of course, be looking at this in too much as 'fic writer with a great big new universe to play with!' and 'they give this kind of blatant information and I'm NOT supposed to turn it into something psychologically deep?'

As a movie to be just a movie, it was fine if not simplistic/cliche/contrive. For a children's movie it may be a bit on the nightmare-fuel side, but still good. The animation was beautiful, wonderful textures and the gestural animation was fantastic. I could probably watch the movie over and over just for that. But it's a very short movie, somewhere around an hour and a half and didn't even feel like that. The plot moves at a rather fast pace right from the get-go though the talking heads tended to drag that pace down awkwardly on occasions.

The characters were- which I blame on the length of time as well as it being a children's movie -flat. They were all given just enough personality that the writer in me wants to flesh them all sorts of out, but really they're no different than the standard archetypes. Just cute and tiny.

But the friend that I saw this with and I were talking after the film about how we wouldn't mind seeing again if not just to give it a good, psychological scrutiny given the 'big reveal' (it's not, really, if you didn't guess it from the beginning, there was a big obvious visual aid about half way through the movie). The big bad, we decided, while supposed to have been 'brought to life' by copying intelligence, acted more like a physical manifestation of Id. It was basically just instinct- creating more machines as a means of procreation, stealing tiny souls either as an analogue for 'feeding' or as a means to protect itself, and then Frued's idea of Thanatos/the death instinct by... well, the obvious end, really.

Of course the entire Id, Ego, Superego thing falls flat since I'd have to rewatch the movie to see who would fit the latter two categories though, right now, I'm thinking the Superego would be the Scientist and Ego the stitchpunks (as they seem to be called).

My friend brought up an interesting question in if the number 9 itself signifies any kind of importance. Unfortunately I haven't done any psychology readings in some years so I don't know, but wiki (for quick reference) has a lot of potentially interesting links on the 9 page.

One thing I'd love to research in depth and see if I can't draw up any parallels with the stitchpunks is the Nine Worthies, nine historical/mythological people who best embody the ideals of chivalry. Also the nine animal attributes of the Chinese Dragon, something I feel all the more curious by tying the end of the movie with the fact the Chinese believe that dragons are benevolent and rulers of water and weather. Also something that could prove to be interesting are the nine virtues of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit because you all know how I enjoy twisting virtues around. The Hindu religion believe 9 to be a pure and complete number symbolizing the end of a cycle (which could possibly lead into the reincarnation cycle?), the number is also considered a sign of perfection in the Baha'i religion as well.

Based on those alone, as well as the hints of personality, there's lots of room for people to play with outside of the movie. And, personally, I sometimes like those freedoms almost as much as I like the source material (that is, it allows me to love of the source material despite what i may think of it on its own).

Now Imma go make something to eat before I leave off for school again...

So, after a nice hot shower, some good music, rereading old quote files (and, of course, cake), I'm in a much better mood and figured I may as well share this little playlist I've had sitting in my iTunes for a while.

1. Man with No Country - Flogging Molly (Roadbuster)

He was built to be a pure machine of war and yet he's become something worth being proud of.

<lj-embed id="24" />

5. Live Before You Die - Social Distortion (Topspin)

Life's too full of new and wondrous experiences to justify leading a meek existence.

<lj-embed id="27" />

9. Bravado - Rush (Wreckers)

Perhaps they joined for the promise of violence, for some convoluted sense of vengeance, perhaps because they held such noble, stubborn ideals but in the end they stayed for one reason: whatever may come, so long as they have each other to fall back on, they'll face it head on.

<lj-embed id="37" />

Wreck n' Rule: A Wreckers FST

I finally got around to seeing some classmates I haven't talked to in about a year and they've roped me into playing Magic with them tomorrow. I think I've got about ten or more years of not-touching-the-game to wow them with...
